For the 2009 Scott August signature flute Scott expressed an interest in a Mojave style flute that had an extended scale and suggested alterations to the tuning to make it more versatile and expressive. The result is the Mojave 6, or M6, a contemporary interpretation of  the ancient flutes of the Mojave tribe.  I had been talking to Frankie Sierra, head of the Bay Clan of the Northern California Flute Circle, about his experiments and research* regarding a Mojave flute that was made with 5 finger holes (one of which was a thumb hole) and that extended the scale.  Using that as a point of departure,   We moved the thumb hole onto the top of the flute, added an additional hole, and then tuned these added pitches to give the instrument greater range and application.

The result is a flute that has a distinct mood--ancient and mystical.   The 2009 Signature flutes are all sold, but the Mojave 6 is still available.

There are two lines of Mojave 6 flutes  The Scott August Series and the Earth Tone Flutes Line.
The Scott August Series Anasazi-style and Mojave-style flutes are made from Aromatic Cedar  and  decorated with custom burn rings and Scotts' Cedar Mesa logo.
