Listen to me improvising on the Quenajave!
Listen to Scott August playing the Mojave 6!
IMPORTANT NOTE:  The particular tuning of the Mojave 6 and the Quenajave requires an extended space between the second and third finger holes (from the bottom).  This distance is 1.75 inches, which is a decent stretch, particularly for
some female players.  If  there is any question about being able to reach it, contact me about making your own "mock
up" flute to test the reach.

Listen to me improvising on a Quenasazi!
Curly Douglas Fir Urushi Anasazi:  About a year ago I was making flutes using Urushi--a traditional Japanese finish.  Urushi is derived from a plant that is related to poison ivy, so the raw (uncured) urushi is very volatile.  I broke out in a rash and stopped using it!  At that time, I had a couple of very beautiful pieces of Curly Douglas Fir that I had finished with urushi, but I was reluctant to sell them because I felt they had not cured sufficiently.  Therefore, I left them on the rack in my shop.

It has been about a year since I made these two flutes, and I feel confident that the urushi is well cured.  Despite that, if you are a player who has a highly allergic relationship with plants like poison ivy and poison oak, you might not want to expose yourself, even to the cured urushi.  I'm allergic to the raw urushi, and I've handled these cured flutes many times without a reaction. Nonetheless,  "buyer beware" is the rule with these flutes!  They are beautiful (and they sound great), and they are unusual--I only made a handful of these urushi flutes.
